Christian Jansen-Yee, PsyD

Dr. Chris Jansen-Yee has been a fully licensed psychologist in the State of Michigan since 1993. He was a graduate of Central Michigan University’s PsyD program in Clinical Psychology (1991), where he also earned his masters in Clinical Psychology (1983), and the University of Hawaii’s BA program in psychology (1977). Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he is Asian-American and works comfortably with people from many backgrounds. He has been in practice in Muskegon since 1988, raising a family with his wife and three children.

Dr. Jansen-Yee’s approach to understanding and working with people draws from many psychological sources, but his primary orientations are interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral. He believes in instilling hope and courage so that depression and anxiety can be effectively managed, if not overcome. He believes one can learn to take responsibility for one’s life, and that insight and judgement can be improved such that greater control is exercised over negative thought patterns and impulses. Although coming to terms with past family influences and traumatic life experiences are an important part of treatment, dealing with current life situations, and cultivating supportive relationships are a major focus of psychotherapy.

Dr. Jansen-Yee is a general family practitioner who works with adults of all ages. While he no longer is accepting children and  adolescents for psychotherapy services, he continues to see them for evaluations. Dr. Jansen-Yee has experience treating:

  • Anxiety Disorder
  • Depression & Mood Disorders
  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Dr. Jansen-Yee believes that psychiatric medication can be helpful. Therefore, he may coordinate services with a psychiatrist or your primary care physician.
